Dodging final round raindrops in Hilton Head, S.C., the Elon University women’s golf team placed fourth at the Southern Conference Championship at Moss Creek Golf Club April 13-15. The result was the Phoenix’s best showing at the event since 2009. Elon shot a combined score of 945, with rounds of 318, 302 and 345.

Elon’s best individual performance at the event came from freshman Kelsey Badmaev, who shot 232 over her three rounds, placing her sixth out of 45 golfers. Badmaev recovered from a first round 83 to shoot 71 and 78 in her later rounds.

Finishing in a tie for 12th place was Phoenix sophomore Sunna Vidisdottir. She notched a score of 235 with rounds of 79, 76 and 80. Sophomore Emily Brooks followed by finishing tied for 16th with a score of 238. Brooks shot 77s in her first two rounds, but slipped to a final round 84.

Sophomore Kathryn Buckingham finished in sole possession of 25th place, shooting 244 for the tournament with rounds of 82, 79 and 83. Completing the Elon contingent was junior Katie Partridge, who shot 247. Partridge shot 80, 78 and 89 over her three rounds.

Two Elon players earned All-SoCon accolades for their efforts. Badmaev earned both All-SoCon freshman team and All-SoCon honors, while Vidisdottir was also honored with All-SoCon distinction.

The event was won the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, who shot 915 with rounds of 312, 295 and 308.  The Mocs’ victory was their fifth straight in the Southern Conference Championship. Individually, UTC sophomore Emily McLennan took home the low honors. She shot 222 with rounds of 73, 75 and 74.
