Elon University baseball team drops final game against Fairfield University

As the bells rang out on a warm noon in Elon, North Carolina, first pitch was called for at Latham Park as the Elon Phoenix and Fairfield Stags set for battle in the final game of a three-game series. Elon won the first two games of the series, thanks to a walk-off single by freshman Gar Hindle in Game 1 and a combined no-hitter in Game 2.

Holocaust survivor shares story of hope, life

From Holland to Jamaica, a story of hope and life can span many countries. For Lex Silbiger, that was the trek he and his family took when he was 6 years old. On Feb. 12, Alexander “Lex” Silbiger spoke to Elon University students, staff and community members as part of the Holocaust Remembrance Day Speaker Series.

Elon University men’s basketball loses back-and-forth match vs. Towson

In a battle of power, all that matters is the end result. For Elon’s men’s basketball team, that result was a loss against the Towson Tigers. Elon fought until the very end, but came up short, losing a physical game 59-72 Jan. 22 at Schar Center. Elon started the game locked on defense, forcing a turnover on the first possession. They then scored the first bucket of the game on a layup by graduate student Chandler Cuthrell. This combination of defensive pressure into points on the board would continue for Elon, as they were able to open the game 13-9 in the first 10 minutes. After a quick exchange of points by both teams, Elon would see its 4-point lead evaporate as Towson scored 11 unanswered to take a 22-15 lead over the Phoenix.

Elon University men’s soccer wins CAA Championship in shutout

Under the North Carolina sun, a new Coastal Athletic Association Champion emerged on Elon University’s Rudd Field. Maroon and gold confetti flew as Elon’s men’s soccer team won the CAA Championship, beating Stony Brook University 3-0. “We’ve just stayed with it,” head coach Marc Reeves said. “We’ve got a little bit more energy, maybe a little more decisiveness. Yeah, we work on these things all the time.” Elon will now advance to the National Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with an automatic bid. The full tournament standings and bracket will be announced on Nov. 17 on ESPN.
