SMART program hopes to expand on social climate recommendations

Jamie Butler and Jazmine Langley had different experiences with mentorship, but that common thread has connected them going forward at Elon University. Butler, assistant director of the Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education (CREDE) said she didn’t have a specific mentor in high school or college and was forced to navigate varying challenges without reassuring guidance.

Football pulls off historic upset at #8 William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — When freshman defensive back Daniel Reed-Bennett’s interception sealed the win for the Elon University football team at the College of William and Mary Saturday night, junior defensive lineman Dondre Howell couldn’t contain his pride. “On that last play of the game, I threw my hands and I almost cried,” Howell said.

The Department of Performing Arts will be presenting the musical “Parade” in November. All of the Musical Theatre students, including first-year students, already auditioned and some of them got cast for the musical.  The audition for “Parade” was the first-year students’ first audition.

Council on Civic Engagement panel hopes to bring racial discussion to Elon

The Council on Civic Engagement's sponsored a paneled discussion, "Columbus, Tulsa, and Charlotte: What's Next?" in McBride  Associated Professor of Psychology Buffie Longmire-Avital moderated the event, and spoke about her experiences as a mother of two black children and growing up in the Unites States as a black woman.  During the discussion, audience members asked questions to the panel which was composed of academics from different areas of expertise from all over campus.  One of these panelists, David Baker, is a visiting Fullbright Scholar and Senior Lecturer in Criminology from Coventry University in the United Kingdom.

Debate watch party draws hundreds to Moseley

Around 250 people attended the presidential debate watch party in Moseley hosted by Elon Votes! and the Center for Leadership. Students and faculty enjoyed ice cream, played debate bingo and listened as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump debated for the first time. The watch party, which showed the debate on a large screen in the student center, is the first of a number of election-related events throughout the semester put on by Elon Votes!

Lambert, administration support students in Black Lives Matter march

Within a day of junior Kaelyn Green and Black Student Union announcing they would hold a Black Lives Matter march on campus, Elon University President Leo Lambert chimed in on the issue at hand. In an email to students and faculty, Lambert commended the work of the BSU for organizing the march and encouraged all to attend. Students listened.

Women's soccer falls to James Madison

The Elon University women's soccer team fell to James Madison University 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play, unable to come back after allowing three goals in the first half. The Dukes scored all three of its goals in an 11-minute stretch, leading 3-0 after 25 minutes. Head coach Chris Neal said the team's double-overtime win against Towson University Friday night may have played a factor with the quick turnaround.

A group of six women who call themselves the “Hardcore Moms,” were clad in Wonderwoman and Superman T-shirts and capes with a picture of their trainer, stood outside Elon University’s Physician Assistant (PA) school, waiting to run the “Great Cape Escape Race.” As a buzzer went off at 9:40 a.m.

One grain at a time: Monks create sand mandala in Numen Lumen

A soothing ohm resonated throughout the Sacred Space of the Numen Lumen Pavilion at 9 a.m on Sept. 21. With several chimes of a bell, Geshe Sangpo and Gen Norbu, monks from the Kandampa Center for Tibetan Monks in Raleigh, visited Elon University and blessed the space they used to create a mandala, a geometric figure with Buddhist symbols. Carefully placing colorful sand into symbols, the two worked for the next two days to create a mandala that represented peace and healing.

Junior publishes op-ed about Olympic swimmer for Connecticut paper

            Junior Alex Attanasio never thought twice when deciding to write about Olympic swimmer Fu Yuanhui for her Entertainment Media class but is now receiving lots of recognition over her Op-Ed.             This fall, Attanasio is enrolled in Dr. Naeemah Clark’s Entertainment media course as a required course for her major in Cinema and Television Arts.

Football upsets #8 William & Mary 27-10

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Behind a stout defense, strong special teams play and a solid second half from the offense, the Elon University football team sent a message to the rest of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) by coming to the College of William & Mary and defeating the eighth-ranked Tribe 27-10 Saturday night. “I’m extremely proud of the kids,” said head coach Rich Skrosky.

Women's soccer starts CAA play with thrilling 2OT win over Towson

Thanks to junior defender Kendall Ballotti's goal with three minutes left in double overtime, the Elon University women’s soccer team edged Towson University 2-1 in its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) match Friday night at Rudd Field. After 17 long minutes of overtime — when it began to seem as if both teams would settle for a draw — senior midfielder Sarah Henson’s cross made its way through a sea of players to Ballotti, who calmly placed the ball past a diving keeper to win the game for Elon.

Elon University dance team wins 2 national titles

The Elon dance team huddled on stage with linked arms, waiting to hear their placement in Division I pom at the 2026 National Dance Association’s College National Championships. When the announcer proclaimed Elon champions, the dancers burst into cheers, realizing they’d secured Elon’s first pom category win in program history. The next day, they became two-time national champions with a first place finish in Division I hip hop.
