Pitching plagues Phoenix in 11-8 loss to East Carolina

The Elon University baseball team scored eight runs against East Carolina University on Saturday in the second game of a three-game series against the Pirates at Latham Park. It wasn’t enough. The Phoenix gave up eleven runs to the Pirates, losing 11-8, to drop to 8-8 and .500 on the season. Elon took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning after trailing for the entire game, but lost it in the top of the ninth by giving up four runs.

Phoenix falls short in CAA semifinal thriller

The score was close the entire contest, with no more than a three-basket difference separating the two teams.

Elon first-year student charged with rape and sexual offense

Updated 3/15/15 5:30 p.m. Alamance County Jail said bail was posted Sunday afternoon for Tristan Pierre Hardinger, an Elon first-year student who was charged Friday by Elon University Police with second-degree rape and second-degree sexual offense. Hardinger's bail was set at $75,000. Vice President of University Communications Dan Anderson said the complainant is a female Elon student. Anderson said Hardinger is still enrolled as an Elon student.

Phoenix fall to East Carolina after giving up 10 runs

The Elon University baseball team lost to East Carolina University 10-3 at Latham Park Friday afternoon. Starting pitcher Matt Harris received his first loss of the season after giving up seven runs off 10 hits in six innings of work. East Carolina got off to a fast start in the game after scoring a run in both the first and second innings that included a home run from sophomore second baseman Charlie Yorgen. The Phoenix tied things back up in the second inning when junior infielder Joey Tomko hit a triple, and eventually scored after a groundout by senior catcher Chris King.

Men breeze by Longwood, win 6-1

The Elon University men’s tennis team cruised past Longwood University 6-1 on Thursday, March 12. “We haven’t really gotten on a roll yet, but hopefully this can start things for us,” said senior Brian Kowalski. The Phoenix jumped ahead from the beginning by taking the doubles point.

Basketball, volleyball courts built outside Global

Elon University Planning, Design and Construction Management has recently completed the construction of a new volleyball court in between the Global Neighborhood and the Loy Center. Originally intended to just be a continuation of the parking lot, Student Residential Life thought that volleyball and basketball courts would be of better use to the students living in both the Global Neighborhood and in Loy Center.

Softball thrives in early going despite weather

After the Elon University softball team returned from the Citrus Classic in Orlando, Florida, it went nine days without playing a game because of inclement weather. This length of time in the middle of the season with no games or consistent practice regiment can often get the better of a team and cause it to crumble, especially since softball relies on repetition and constantly practicing different skills. “The team loves to play games,” said junior infielder Emily Cameron.
