U.S. Attorney Office investigates NC Department of Health and Human Services

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is under federal investigation after being subpoenaed by the U.S Attorney's Office in Raleigh. Investigators are looking into expensive contracts for employees with personal connections to other employees in the office and the expansion of a consulting firm contract from $3.2 million dollars to $9 million dollars according to a report from the Raleigh News and Observer. Terry has career night as volleyball falls to College of Charleston

Freshman outside hitter Kam Terry had a career night as the Elon University volleyball team fell to Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival the College of Charleston 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 26-24). Terry led the Phoenix offensively with 18 kills on the night and finished with 11 blocks in the match.

Elon Food Truck Frenzy adjusts to increased demand, Dusty Donuts cashes in

Elon University's Student Union Board made significant changes to for its second annual Food Truck Frenzy after experiencing several issues last year. Some of the notable changes included increasing the number of vendors from five to eight and requiring vendors to sell from a limited menu. Sophie Ritter, vice president of SUB operations, said the smaller menu was designed to lower wait times in long lines. "The food trucks are coming for one day and they can't put everything that they have on their regular menu on this menu just because it would be too much for them to accommodate," she said.

Double the Food Truck Frenzy

During the spring 2015 semester, Elon University’s Student Union Board (SUB) collaborated with Dining Services to launch a new event: Food Truck Frenzy. Five food trucks parked in the temporary parking lot behind Belk Library and served a variety of foods, from dumplings to ice cream to gourmet baked potatoes. On Wednesday, Oct. 7, SUB welcomed back last year’s vendors in addition to five more, resulting in a diverse array of cuisines.

Senior defender Mel Insley got the Phoenix on the board in the 14th minute, scoring her third goal of the season, on all free kicks.

As you all know, last week’s school shooting at the Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, was the fourth mass murder this year of Americans by American gunmen and approximately the 200th since 2006 in this country. The questions we should ask are simple: “Why does it keep on happening?” and “How can we stop it from happening again and again?” The answers are, unfortunately, not that simple.
