Elon University women’s basketball makes statement win

From the opening shot-clock violation, Elon’s women’s basketball made it clear that the Towson University Tigers were in for a long night. Fueled by physical defense and fast-break scoring, the Phoenix trounced Towson 68-54 in a dominant win on Feb. 1.

ABSS to have Remote Learning Day Feb. 2

The Alamance-Burlington School System announced Feb. 1 that all facilities and schools will be closed Feb. 2, and that students and staff will participate in a Remote Learning Day. The decision comes after a winter storm that swept across North Carolina on Jan. 31.

2nd half rally comes up short against Stony Brook

For much of the first half and early in the second, Stony Brook seemed to have an answer for every comeback attempt by Elon. The men’s basketball team trailed by double digits for the majority of the game, and despite clawing their way back, it wasn’t enough as Stony Brook held on for a 72-68 win.

Loy Center was filled with enthusiasm as potential new sorority members "ran home" for bid day on Jan. 28. Bid day is the final day of Panhellenic recruitment, also known as rush, when potential new members, or PNMs, are formally invited to join a specific sorority chapter. This year, bid day and the second-to-last round, preference round, both took place Jan. 28 after being postponed because of winter weather.

Elon Town Council discusses possible acquisition of Labcorp property

The Elon Town Council discussed possible funding paths for a new municipal building and police station. The Town agreed to purchase a Labcorp property at 112 Orange Drive in the fall. The purchase has not gone through and members debated costs Jan. 27.

OPINION: The small town snow crisis that never was

I came across a sarcastic Fizz post while I walked through the snow. It showed a concentrated clump of snow salt on the sidewalk and read, “Great! We definitely won’t get any ice here!” I saw a couple of posts like this on the student social media app.
