Updated as of 3:38 p.m. Feb. 1 to add information about the rescheduling of the Black History Month Kickoff.

In-person meetings for undergraduate and graduate classes on Feb. 2 are canceled, Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley announced in an email Feb. 1.

The cancellation comes after a winter storm on Jan. 31 that swept across the state. According to Dooley’s email to the campus community, the nearby area received anywhere from 7-12 inches of snow. Dooley wrote that Facilities Management crews have been working to clear sidewalks and roadways across campus. But he advised students that icy conditions will remain tonight and into tomorrow. Black ice on roads could be present so driving is discouraged, Dooley wrote. Dooley advised students to be careful when walking around campus.

According to the announcement, students should check with instructors for further information about alternative plans for class, such as online meetings during the class time, readings, or other assignments.

Parking lots across campus, including at Inman Admissions, Innovation Quad, Koury Athletic Center, Lindner Hall, McMichael Hall and Oaks visitor and faculty/staff spaces will continue to be closed until at least 6 a.m. on Feb. 3. Students are only permitted to park in lots to which they are assigned.

University offices are closed Feb. 1 except for Belk Library, Campus Recreation and Moseley Center. A limited number of dining halls will be open on Feb. 2. Mail Services and Student Health Services will be closed Feb. 2. Additionally, Elon Express Shuttles will not operate on Feb. 2.

The Black History Month Kickoff, which was scheduled to take place on Feb. 2, has been delayed to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 11 in the McBride Gathering Space during the Black Table Talk event, according to Assistant Director for the Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education Abdul-Malik Harrison.

Dooley wrote that they will provide another update on the afternoon of Feb. 2.
