Elon University’s Move-In Day at East Neighborhood began early, bustling with energy. Freshmen and their parents arrived as early as 8 a.m., bearing several carts worth of items to bring to their rooms.
Freshman Morgan Siegel, a Teaching Fellow, said the move-in process has been smooth.
“We honestly were the first people here, and everyone has just been so incredibly lovely and helpful,” Siegel said.
Siegel said she is a little anxious for her classes, but the ease of the move-in process has eased her nerves.
“It's definitely helping with my nerves and making me more excited,” Siegel said. “I got to meet my roommate, which has been super cool because we're both from different places. I'm from St. Louis and she's from Atlanta.”
Freshman Grace Costa, who is from Massachusetts, said she is both enthusiastic and nervous for her time at Elon.
“I'm excited to see this school and do a bunch of new things, but it's scary leaving home,” Costa said.
Another Massachusetts native, freshman Maeve Browne, was able to quickly move in.
“We could fit everything in one bin, which is nice,” Browne said. “It's honestly been pretty quiet in here. I feel like it's not too chaotic or anything, and it's very easy.”
Browne said she decided to come to Elon because of the community and the resources it could provide to help her succeed in the future.
Freshman John Teduits, who moved into East Neighborhood, said he chose Elon because he connected with the vibe of the campus.
“When I toured it, I sort of had that feeling, like it was just right for me out of all the other schools I toured,” Teduits said.
Peter Hartog, a father of a freshman moving into East, said he was impressed by how efficient the move in process was.
“1000 years ago, when we went to college, it was nothing like this,” Hartog said. “Everybody's been incredibly helpful, incredibly friendly, and the fact that a lot of folks come by and check on us has been very endearing.”
Hartog said he is emotional but also excited to see his son go off to college.
“We know he's in the right place, and that's what makes all of this even more special than it already is,” Hartog said.
Hartog’s son, Ben, said he is ready to get into his classes, and join several clubs. Ben said he is interested in joining the economics club and Hillel at Elon.
Freshman Cassie Corbett said she is excited to begin classes at Elon.
“I'm really excited to learn more about my major, which is dance science,” Corbett said. “I feel like that's not really common, so I know I'm going to learn a lot really quickly.”
Corbett’s mother, Melissa, said it’s emotional seeing her daughter off to college but is impressed with everything Elon has had to offer.
“I know she's going to have such a wonderful time here,” Melissa said.
