The class of 2030 arrived at Elon University the morning of Aug. 21, with many looking forward to the year ahead.

Austin White came from Cincinnati, Ohio, and said she was looking forward to competing with the Elon track and field team.

“I’m just excited to be here. I’m excited to start this new journey in my life,” White said.

White said she made sure to pack her iPad and computer before moving in, as it was something she’d need for her biology and psychology classes.

Connor Behrmann is a Business Fellow from Ramsey, New Jersey, and said he was eager for the opportunities available to him in the program.

“This year, I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone,” Behrmann said. “Going forward, definitely studying abroad.”

Behrmann made sure to pack lots of storage bins, bags and cabinets for his dorm, and said he rather have too much storage than not enough.

Master's student Payton Brinn is the residential advisor for the First Phoenix Living Learning Community, and is looking forward to meeting other first generation students on the floor and getting them used to life at Elon.

“I loved my RA my first year, and they made it a very smooth transition for me,” Brinn said. “I wanted to give back and do the same for other people and make sure that they have a good experience.”

Cayman Kell was in the hallway building a shelf for his son’s room, and said he was feeling bittersweet during the move-in process.

“It’s a new chapter for my young man,” Kell said. “Coming in he’s going to be running cross country and track.”

Members of SGA stopped in Colonnades Neighborhood to hand out water and gelato to students and move-in staff. Tyler Mastrangelo — vice president for communications with SGA — said they had been going around all the neighborhoods to meet students and families.

“We’re getting to know people and just being a friendly face on campus to welcome people into probably pretty stressful days,” Mastrangelo said. “Give them some water, get them hydrated and just greet people and meet them where they’re at.”
