Joe Gatto, American comedian, producer and actor performed as one of the last events of Elon Day on March 6 in Alumni Gym. Gatto starred in Impractical Jokers, a hidden-camera comedy television series, before leaving in 2021, and is on tour throughout cities and college campuses.
The doors to the event, hosted by Elon’s Student Union Board, opened at 8:00 p.m. in Alumni Gym with Gatto stepping onstage at 8:30 p.m. but some students began lining up, such as freshman Alanna Urteaga, as early as 4:30 p.m.
“I love Joe Gatto, duh. I love him,” Urteaga said. “I grew up watching Impractical Jokers, and then that’s the only thing I watch when I’m sad.”
Urteaga said she even got to see Gatto in person before the doors opened.
“I’m so hype to see him in the flesh,” Urteage said before the event. “He came over here and waved like an hour ago, and it was so fun.”
Alexis Swider, associate director of Elon Student Involvement emailed general admission ticket holders with rules for the event, regarding ticket and Phoenix Card use, entry into Alumni Gym, and photography and videography. According to the email sent by Swider, attendees were not allowed to take photos or videos of the comedian or transfer tickets to other people.
“If you are found to be recording we have the right to remove you and delete all recorded material,” Swider wrote in the email.
Elon freshman Casey Leone and her friends were among some of the first people in line. Leone said she was a little annoyed, but understood she couldn’t take any photos or videos.
“It’s really not that big of a deal, because it’s standard for any sort of performance, musical or dance recital,” Leone said.
Elon News Network was denied entry into the event.
