Just months after leading Elon men’s tennis to its second Coastal Athletic Association title in program history, head coach Maciek Sykut is stepping away from the program.
Elon Athletics announced July 29 that Sykut will leave his position effective Aug. 31 to accept a leadership role outside of collegiate athletics.
“My time at Elon has been one of the most meaningful chapters of my coaching career,” Sykut said in an Elon Athletics press release. “I am proud of the championship culture we have built together, and I have every bit of confidence in the future of Elon men’s tennis.”
Sykut spent two seasons with the Phoenix, guiding Elon to back-to-back CAA championship match appearances.
This past season, the Phoenix broke through after four consecutive championship match losses to the University of North Carolina Wilmington, defeating the Seahawks to claim the conference title and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Elon also finished 4-0 against CAA opponents, and Sykut was named CAA Coach of the Year.
In a statement, Director of Athletics Jenn Strawley thanked Sykut for his leadership, saying he helped build “a championship culture on and off the court,” highlighted by the program’s CAA title and NCAA Tournament appearance this spring.
Sykut said the decision came after much reflection, adding that his new opportunity better aligns with his passions and gives him more time to focus on his family.
A national search for Sykut’s replacement begins immediately, according to Elon Athletics.
