Elon University’s engineering program is now accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. This accreditation means that the program meets standards that will produce graduates able to enter technical fields.

University President Connie Book said in a news release Aug. 29 she was grateful to the university staff and Department of Engineering who worked to make this happen.

“ABET’s accreditation of our engineering program marks a significant step forward in Elon’s mission to produce engineers who are solving the world’s problems,” Book said in the release.

ABET accreditation focuses on what students experience and learn. In order to receive accreditation, ABET looks at program curricula, faculty, facilities, and institutional support. ABET is a nonprofit organization and currently accredits 4,361 programs at 850 colleges and universities in 41 countries and territories.

Elon University will hold a reception Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. in Founders Hall to celebrate the accreditation. The event is hosted by Book and both students and faculty are invited.
