Tonight there are four candidates competing in the race for governor of North Carolina. On the democratic ballot incumbent Roy Cooper is facing off against Ernest Reeves. On the republican ballot, current Lt. Governor Dan Forest is running against state representative Holly Grange.

During his time as governor, Cooper has fought for jobs, public schools and access to affordable health care. While in office, Cooper worked to eliminate workplace discrimination, established paid parental leave for state employees, and pushed legislation to increase teacher pay.

Reeves is campaigning on minimum wage increase, equal pay for women, teacher’s pay and house ownership. As a retired United States Army Communications Officer, Reeves also supports an improved Veterans Administration claims process.

As lieutenant governor, Forest presides over the N.C. Senate and sits on the State Board of Education and State Board of Community Colleges. Forest said he will govern the way he campaigns: “open and honest, transparent and to the point.”

Grange’s campaign focuses on tort reform, immigration, veteran care and fighting for pro-life rights. Grange has led the charge to require North Carolina sheriffs to cooperate with ICE and to eliminate “infanticide in North Carolina,” according to her website.
