An Amtrak train fatally struck a male pedestrian Tuesday , according to the Burlington Police Department. The victim, later identified, is not an Elon student.
The Amtrak train was traveling north toward the Burlington Amtrak Station when it collided with Franklin Gwynn, 25, of Burlington., a male who was seen walking near the tracks just prior to the accident.
At this time, the identity of the victim has not been released, and the investigation is ongoing, per the department.
Alamance County EMS and Burlington police and fire departments responded to the incident about 2:00 p.m. near N. Fisher Street.
The incident marks at least the fourth train-related fatality in Alamance County within the last two years.
