The Elon Board of Alderman unanimously approved plans Tuesday night to further develop downtown Elon.

The plan, now called the Downtown Elon Master Vision, is focusing on increasing retail, commercial and residential building, as well as green space and parking. There are also potential plans for downtown signage, logo and graphics concepts, and changes to traffic flow.

At the Board meeting, Elon Police Chief Cliff Parker also proposed raising parking ticket prices from $10 to $20. This isn't the only increase.

There is debate concerning whether or not to increase the 44 one-hour parking spots currently on Lebanon Avenue to two-hour parking spots.

The only concern with this is that as more students park, there's less space for visitors.

No final decisions have been made about the parking spots. Elon Local News will keep you updated concerning Board of Alderman meetings in the near future.
