I e-mailed you because I figured you could help me out with something I am trying to do this Saturday. If you do not know yet there is a 5K Road Race or Walk this Saturday in front of Rhoades Stadium starting at 12 (pre-registration at 11). It is to benefit Pulmonary Hypertension Research which is something my sister has. Road race on May 10th (Saturday). The road race is to benefit Pulmonary Hypertension which my sister was diagnosed with over 10 years ago. We found out about this horrible disease when my sister had a sudden shortness of breath episode and lost consciousness. This came out of no where at the time my sister played sports, was active and never had anything like this happen before. I remember getting on my knees at church and praying to God "please not let my sister die", when she finally regained consciousness, I cannot remember a happier moment in my life. After several months of diagnostics, she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension. We were relieved to find out exactly what it was, but saddened at the same time when we learned it was a terminal illness. My sister's diagnosis is primary pulmonary hypertension, which means they do not know the cause for it. They originally gave my sister a life expectancy of only a couple years to live. Thankfully, She was eligible for an experimental study and received a new medication that had just come out; she now takes several medications daily and I am happy to say my sister leads a very active life and will be finishing up her freshman year at UMass Amherst were she is supporting 3.9 GPA, is on the Deans list and will be enrolled in the honors college this fall.
