A letter to students from President Lambert

Dear Students, Welcome back to campus.  I hope your spring classes are off to a wonderful start. I am compelled to write as we begin a new semester to offer a reflection on a recent cowardly action by an individual who yelled a racial slur and sexually graphic insult from a moving car to an undergraduate student.

"We were really happy to have her here, but it just wasn't a good fit and that's something that happens in organizations a lot," said Ginny Vellani, the new Acting Director of Elon Hillel and Elon's Coordinator for Jewish student life. Rabbi Joseph was here for a shorter duration than some expected. "I think that's [a semester] as much time as it takes to figure out if you're in the place that's right for you," Vellani said. Student leaders and families on the Jewish Life Advisory Council were notified last Monday evening.
