Elon NPHC organizations seek collaboration with other fraternities, sororities

Amid a sea of houses circling Elon University’s Loy Center, the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity house is inherently different from the rest. While it is similar in size and structure to its neighbors, it is the sole residential building in the “Greek village” part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) — the overarching organization regulating historically black fraternities and sororities.

Elon begins move to Under Armour

It’s been a month since the Elon University athletic teams began competition in 2016-17, which marked the beginning of Elon’s apparel partnership with Under Armour. And, since Elon became an Under Armour school July 1, Director of Athletics Dave Blank said that the relationship between the school and company has been great. “They’ve been outstanding with getting the equipment that we needed,” Blank said.

Equestrian Team works to train horses and compete in shows

About 30 minutes away in Mebane, a group of 20 “horse-obsessed” students head to Rosewood Farm weekly to take riding lessons, care for their horses and prepare for horse shows against other collegiate riders. A lesser-known organization on Elon’s campus, the club sport Elon Equestrian Team has garnered a group of dedicated riders, passionate about horses to come together and do what they love.

Former professor of 30 years welcomes new opportunities

            After thirty years at Elon, history professor Nancy Midgette is wasting no time taking advantage of her new found free time.             Midgette came to Elon in 1985 after meeting Professor George Troxler and his wife at a southern historians meeting.  Troxler told Midgetter that if she ever found herself in North Carolina, to stop by Elon and apply for a job because they were often hiring new professors.

Women's soccer strikes early to beat Davidson 2-0

In its final match before Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play begins, the Elon University women’s soccer team got a first-half goal from each of its young, speedy forwards to beat Davidson College 2-0 Thursday night at Rudd Field. Freshman forward Taylor Paradoski scored in the 17th minute for her first career collegiate goal and sophomore forward Tori Baliatico found the back of the net in the 28th minute, something that encourages head coach Chris Neal ahead of conference play. "I think we took a big step forward today,” Neal said.
