College students gamble with network marketing

That is the workday Eliot Browarsky, a senior at Elon University, wanted, and that’s what he got.

Siewers’ late goals gives Elon women's soccer thrilling win over Furman

It ain’t over until it’s over, right? In a match-up of two of the highest scoring women’s soccer offenses in the country, Elon University faced a number of deficits against Furman University, the first-place team in the Southern Conference. But the Phoenix never gave up, coming back from margins of 2-0 and 3-2 to earn a 4-3 victory over the visiting Paladins, capped by two goals off the foot of freshman midfielder Kelly Siewers in the final 12 minutes of play. The win snaps a three-game stretch in conference play in which Elon failed to come through with a victory, instead settling for a pair of ties and a loss. “We had been struggling from a chemistry standpoint,” said Elon head coach Chris Neal. “Even though our conference record was .500, we were incredibly disappointed.

On ‘AM’: Arctic Monkeys meet the desert

When Arctic Monkeys' latest album dropped last month, they’d captured the attention of everyone from Elton John to Robert Pattinson. In the ten years they’ve been together, each of Arctic Monkeys’ five albums has taken the number one spot on the UK charts, something that’s never been accomplished by any band on an indie label before. The new album, “AM,” has become the second best selling record of the year, right after Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories.” It’s currently in the running for a Mercury Award, competing in the category with heavy hitters the likes of David Bowie. It’s undeniable that Arctic Monkeys are a success.

Elon struggles to contain Georgia Southern hitters in loss

The Elon University volleyball team got off to a slow start on Saturday, Oct. 12, inside Alumni Gym and never recovered, as a strong Georgia Southern University attack powered the way to a 3-0 (25-10, 26-24, 25-16) win over the Phoenix. The visiting Eagles (17-3 overall, 5-1 Southern Conference) jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first set, causing Elon head coach Mary Tendler to burn a timeout.

Elon women's soccer draws with Wofford

Despite sophomore forward Nicole Dennion scoring her ninth goal of the season Friday, Oct. 11, against Wofford College, the Phoenix and Terriers battled to a 1-1 draw. The goal brought her one goal behind Furman's Stephanie DeVita for the most in the Southern Conference.

SGA Senate Recap: Oct. 10

Derek Jeter for New York Yankees' manager in 2018

Lets go four more. With the signing of manager Joe Girardi, the New York Yankees ensured they would have arguably Major League Baseball's best manager on the bench for another four years. The four-year contract is worth $16 million, which makes him the second-highest paid manager in baseball behind the Los Angeles Angels' Mike Scioscia.

Elon Performing Arts Department presents 'The Children’s Hour' for a contemporary audience

On ‘Hall of Fame’: Nothing is stopping Big Sean

Still Bumpin’ is a new series in which The Edge contributor Peter Walpole muses on albums still getting airplay in his personal library months after their release. More than eight months after its initially intended release date, Big Sean, GOOD Music’s first Detroit player off the bench, has finally dropped his sophomore LP, “Hall of Fame.” Sean elected to omit the originally intended subtitle addendum to the album, “Memoirs of a Detroit Player,” in the lead up to the release, but the sentiment is intact. North Carolinians rate public schools poorly in new Elon Poll

As K-12 students across North Carolina prepare for their winter break, the Elon University Poll released poll data on Dec. 17 finding that most North Carolinians gave mediocre or poor grades to public schools across the state. “The states have always had deep authority on education, but there has been more federal involvement in various years,” Director of the Elon University Poll Jason Husser said. “So we thought, well, this is the time for us to really look in depth about what do people think about North Carolina schools.”

Grief, loss support group provides comfort for Elon faculty, staff

Elon University associate chaplain Rev. Julie Tonnesen said loss and grief are universal emotions, but found that they can be difficult for faculty and staff to process while continuing their usual routines. “Even when we show up to work, that doesn’t mean that we get to put the rest of our lives on the back burner,” Tonnesen said. “Our grief comes with us. It’s not something we can just keep on a shelf at home.” In collaboration with Counseling Services, the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, began offering a monthly group for faculty and staff to support those affected by loss.
