McEwen Dining Hall will be closed through Monday morning and afternoon due to a minor gas leak outside of the building, according to an email sent by Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley.

An Elon E-alert was first sent out at 3:28 p.m. Oct. 18 that stated a gas leak had been reported in the area of the dining hall. The Elon Fire Department was on the scene at that time to investigate the report.

At 4:42 p.m., another alert was sent out to announce the source of the leak had been located and that it was safe to be in the area.

In the email from Dooley, he wrote that the dining hall and its retail locations, including Billy D’s and Village Juice, will be closed for breakfast and lunch Oct. 19. The part needed to repair the leak is expected to be available Monday morning.

Dooley also wrote that no other buildings are impacted and that classes in the McEwen Communications Building will proceed as normal. Students are advised to be cautious of workers if they are near the building.
