The Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lot in Mebane wasn’t just filled with cars Nov. 13 — it was filled with animatronic dinosaurs and deep-dish cookies.

Hosted by the traveling food truck I Heart Cookies, the event paired a dinosaur-themed attraction with cookies baked from scratch at the company’s bakery in Wichita, Kansas. According to an email statement from I Heart Cookies to Elon News Network, the truck visits a new city each day. This year’s tour marks the first time the company has traveled through North Carolina.

Attendees watch animatronic dinosaurs roar on Nov. 14 in the Mebane Lowe's Home Improvement parking lot.

Burlington resident Nicole Parker was tagged in the I Heart Cookies post by her mother on Facebook. Parker said she was shocked that something like this came to Alamance County.

“I was like, ‘What is this?’” Parker said. “I have never seen this before. It is really cool. It’s definitely worth a $5 cookie.”

To enter the event, attendees purchased admission in the form of a deep-dish cookie.

Attendee Elizabeth Bailey went to the event with her whole family. She said her family loved the dinosaurs and the experience as a whole.

“The interaction with people, and getting to know the dinosaurs and getting to know what they do,” Bailey said.

Ten-year-old Kasey Murray said yes when her mother asked if she wanted to join her younger brother at the event.

“Seeing the animatronics, I think that is really cool,” Kasey said.

Kasey’s brother, Kolton, said he liked several of the dinosaurs at the event.

“I like the velociraptor because it’s almost as strong as a T.rex,” Kolton said.

The next stop on the tour is scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 14 in King, North Carolina.
