Elon University football’s home opener against Davidson College on Sept. 6 was postponed until 8 p.m. according to an e alert sent out at 6:20 p.m.

The game officially started at 8:17 p.m. over two hours after the expected start time.

In addition to the game being delayed, Rhodes Stadium did not open to the public until 7:30 p.m. 

The game was previously delayed until 7 p.m. with Rhodes Stadium opening at 6:30 p.m. according to an e alert sent out at 5:16 p.m. 

Inside Rhodes Stadium, the jumbotron is displaying the evacuation plan for the stadium. 

The plan states, “in the event of severe weather, seek immediate shelter at the Schar Center across Williamson Avenue or in your own vehicle.”

Prior to the announcement of the delay, multiple e alerts were sent out delaying the opening of Rhodes Stadium due to lighting in the area. 

The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for Alamance, Davidson, Randolph and Guilford counties until 8 p.m. due to excessive rainfall which may result in flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas. According to the NWS there is a 60% chance of thunderstorms heading into the evening of Sept. 6 which will continue into Sept. 7.

Elon University Student Involvement’s tailgate was moved from the Global parking lot to Global Commons due to the weather, according to a post on the department’s Instagram.
