Former Elon University quarterback Matthew McKay, who graduated in December 2022, has become the second 2022 Phoenix player to receive a rookie camp invitation from an NFL team. After kicker Skyler Davis earned an invite from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, McKay earned a similar invite to the Dallas Cowboys rookie camp.

McKay went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, but will have a chance to compete for a summer roster spot via the rookie camp taking place from May 12 to 14.

McKay transferred to Elon in 2022 as a redshirt senior. He previously played at Montana State University in 2021 and North Carolina State University from 2018-19. In total with the Phoenix, he tallied 2709 passing yards, the ninth most in a season in Phoenix history. He also recorded 21 passing touchdowns with only four interceptions for a passer rating of 150.4. McKay also recorded over 400 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Elon News Network has requested an interview with McKay as well as head coach Tony Trisciani and is waiting for comment.
