The state of North Carolina is providing scholarship grant funds to students who experienced financial hardship related to damage and destruction from Hurricane Florence, according to Elon University Office of Financial Planning.

Elon is accepting applications for emergency scholarship grant funds starting Nov. 1.

The maximum grant possible is $1,250, according to the North Carolina Emergency Scholarship Grant Application.

Students who are eligible for emergency grant funds are students who were enrolled in a university on Sept. 10, 2018, and reside in a county affected by the hurricane.

To apply, the application said students must attach "a statement describing your extenuating circumstances and explain why you need financial support as a result of Hurricane Florence’s impact on you and/or your family."

The application also requests any supporting documentation where possible.

Counties eligible for aid include Alamance, Guilford, Chatham, Durham and Orange counties. Go to FEMA's website for the full list of designated disaster areas.

Students who are eligible need to complete an application with the Office of Financial Planning.
