Beginning Thursday, March 24 at 11 a.m. North Carolina drivers will have to watch their driving speed more than ever.
The N.C. Governor's Highway Safety Program, state, and local law enforcement kicks off the "Obey the Sign or Pay the Fine" Speeding Enforcement Campaign to ensure drivers travel safely obeying the posted speed limit. The enforcement blitz will go from March 24 through April 3.
"North Carolina law enforcement remains committed to keeping our highway and roads safe," Public Safety Secretary Frank L. Perry says.
Depending on the direction of travel Interstate 95 South, Exit 138 or NC Highway 64 E, Exit 464B will all be Speeding Enforcement Campaign interests. These locations are near Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Four N.C. Wesleyan College students died Monday evening after the car collided with another car on U.S. 301 in front of the campus in Rocky Mount. Police are still investigating the cause of the wreck.
"We want to help our state and local law enforcement get out their message Obey the Sign or Pay the Fine to reduce fatalities," Director of the Governor's Highway Safety Program, Don Nail says.
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, "law enforcement will be targeting and ticketing speeding drivers at all times." This program will be enforced throughout the state. The DOT also said, "in 2015, speeding was a contributing factor in 23 percent of all fatal crashes in North Carolina and 322 lives were lost in such crashes"
