The Elon University Phoenix volleyball team fell to James Madison University Saturday 3-1 (25-22, 13-25, 17-25, 14-25) for its second loss in as many nights.

The Phoenix offense was at its strongest in the first set, taking a 22-21 lead after a kill from freshman outside hitter Kam Terry. The Phoenix held the lead for the rest of the set, winning 25-22.

But the Phoenix could not find an offensive spark the rest of the night, trailing all the way in the second set to a 25-13 loss. Although the score was close early in the third set, the Dukes pulled away, winning 25-17. Set four was much of the same, with the Dukes going on a 5-1 run at the end of the set to secure a 25-14 win.

Terry led Elon's offensive output, finishing the match with 12 kills. Sophomore setter Sydel Curry finished the match with 36 assists and two blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Sydney Busa also contributed, finishing with nine kills and nine digs. But Elon's offensive efforts were mostly quelled by James Madison — the Dukes led the Phoenix in every statistical category, and outscored Elon 72-47.

The loss drops the Phoenix to 5-19 on the season, with a 1-9 record in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Dukes improve to 20-3 with a 10-0 record in CAA play. Elon's next match is at 7 p.m. Oct. 28, when the College of William & Mary visits Alumni Gym. The only CAA win of Elon's season so far came against the Tribe Oct. 17 (25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 25-16).
