Hello!

This coming September 20th, Elon University's scenic campus will be the site of The Great Cape Escape, a 5k/10k benefiting the Open Door Clinic.

The Open Door has been serving Alamance County and the Burlington community since 1990 by providing a free clinic for those who are in need of health care and without means to receive care otherwise. The clinic is funded solely by grants, fundraisers, and donations, and most of those providing services are volunteers. Providers, nurses, phlebotomists, Elon students and others all team up to donate their time and expertise to run this non-profit clinic.

Elon's relationship with the clinic has stretched across many areas of campus. Elon's undergraduates, many of whom hope to pursue a career in medicine, play a major role in keeping the clinic running smoothly. Physician Assistant students in Elon's graduate proram arrive every Tuesday and Thursday evenings to help with triage and other clinic needs, gaining valuable hands-on experience and getting to interact with patients from the community.

So far, EPASS's plans for the race have received a lot of interest from sponsors in and members of the community, making it possible to throw this "party with a purpose", complete an afterparty with live music, post-run yoga, free massages, awards, vendors - even special events and booths just for kids. Registration includes a 100% polyester running shirt, coupons for freebies around Elon, two plastic cups, a water bottle, and various other goodies.

See runtheGCE.com for more information on The Open Door Clinic, the GCE as well as how to register.

We would love ELN to be there to cover this event. If you are open to the possibility, please feel free to call or e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
