When facing two win-or-go-home games at the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Thursday, the Elon University softball team won the first 8-6 against Towson University. But James Madison University sent Elon home in the second game, ending the season for the Phoenix by a count of 13-2.

In the second game, the Dukes scored eight runs in the second inning and five runs in the third, facing four different Elon pitchers in the two innings.

Junior Kayla Caruso started the game inthe circle for Elon but left the game with two outs in the second after giving up four runs. Freshman Kiandra Mitchum did not record an out for the Phoenix, also allowing four runs. Sophomore Alli Burdette got the last out of the second but gave up five runs in the third before senior Eve Clausen came in and threw the last 2.1 innings without allowing a run.

The Phoenix scored twice in the fifth to get on the scoreboard, as a triple from senior Aly Quintana sent senior Sarah Little across the plate. Freshman Hannah Olson added an RBI double. The Phoenix would not score again. The game and the Phoenix season ended on the mercy rule.

The Phoenix finished 2015 with 31-22 (11-10 CAA) and took third place at the CAA Tournament.
