The Elon University women’s tennis team was victorious on Senior Day, defeating North Carolina Central University 6-1.

Seniors Barbora Lazarova and Maria Camara were honored before the match.

“I was so nervous in the beginning,” Lazarova said. “I could not believe that this was the last match.”

The Phoenix won the doubles point to start the day with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Lazarova and freshman Kirsten Ward cruised past seniors Ekaterina Nakrasova and Rebecca Wood 8-2 at the No. 1 position. Soon after, junior Taylor Casey and freshman Erica Braschi clinched the point with a dominating 8-1 victory over sophomore Tamara Jeremic and freshman Laura Mullis at No. 3 doubles.

The Phoenix dominated singles play and earned three quick victories at the bottom of the lineup to clinch the match. First, Casey breezed past Cover at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0.

Freshman Bridgett Liddell then pulled off the same feat at No. 6 singles by beating sophomore Lynsey Mullis 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Kamilla Beisenova clinched the match for the Phoenix with a 6-1, 6-1 straight sets win at No. 5 singles.

Lazarova extended her singles win streak to four with a straight sets victory over Wood. In her final match at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, Lazarova beat Wood 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Braschi’s win at No. 3 singles put Elon ahead 6-0 and gave herself a 12th win of the year with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nakrasova.

Freshman Olivia Lucas was the lone Elon player to lose on the day, going down in a super tiebreaker at No. 1 singles to junior Alissa Muamba.

With the win, Elon improves to 14-7 on the year. The Phoenix will now await the release of the seedlings and matchups for the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Tennis Championships. An announcement will be made early next week and the tournament will begin on Thursday in Williamsburg, Virginia.

“We’ve had some really good results and have beaten some good teams, so I think we’re very prepared for the tournament,” head coach Elizabeth Anderson said.
