The Elon University women’s tennis team’s seven-match winning streak ended Friday after a 4-3 loss to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 49ers. The 49ers held serve at the Halton Wagner Tennis Center as they extended their own winning streak to six.

The Phoenix got off to a hot start in doubles. Elon freshman Erica Braschi and junior Taylor Casey outlasted UNC Charlotte junior Tyler Baker and sophomore Macy Vonderschmdit at No. 3 doubles in a super tiebreaker 8-7 (12-10). Freshmen Bridet Liddell and Olivia Lucas claimed the second doubles victory at the No. 2 position for the Phoenix by defeating seniors Lisa Grosselius and Natsuko Takayanagi 8-5.

Senior Barbora Lazarova and freshman Kirsten Ward were the lone Phoenix duo to lose

Charlotte responded taking four the six singles contests to earn the comeback victory.

Lucas defeated 49ers sophomore Victoria Pahlett in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles and Ward defeated Vonderschmidt by the same score at No. 2 doubles. But the Phoenix got swept at the bottom four positions, which would cost the team the match.

Lazarova won the first set but was dominated in the next two to lose 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles against Grosselius.

Braschi also won her first set in her match against Holtkamp at No. 4 singles, but eventually lost in a third set tiebreaker.

Casey and freshman Kamilla Beisenova lost in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively to round out the Phoenix line up.

With the loss, the Phoenix drop to 12-6 on the season and ends it seven-match winning streak while the 49ers harlotte improves to 11-8.

Elon will return home on Tuesday to host Davidson College at 2:30 p.m. The matchup will kick off a three-game home stand to close out the Phoenix’s regular season.
