The Elon University softball team had a plentiful number of hits in its 11-2 victory Tuesday against North Carolina A&T State University.

The Phoenix had 14 hits on the day, with three from freshmen Hannah Olson and three from Kara Shutt. Shutt also five RBIs.

The scoring started for the Phoenix in the first, thanks to Shutt’s two-run double. The Aggies responded quickly, tying the game in the second on a double and an error.

But Elon took the lead right back in the second, scoring four runs on singles from Olson and Shutt and a double from junior Emily Cameron.

Elon blew the game open in the third, as singles from sophomore Alaina Hall and Shutt put the Phoenix at nine runs. Sophomore Emily Roper capped off the scoring with a two-run home run to left.

The winning pitcher for Elon was Eve Clausen, who threw the final two innings for the Phoenix. She faced the minimum number of batters, struck out one and earned her first win of the season.

Elon finishes its regular season with a three-game series against the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and needs to win two games to clinch a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament. The first pitch of a doubleheader Friday will be at 5 p.m.
