The Elon University women’s lacrosse team downed High Point University, 16-10, at Rhodes Stadium Wednesday night. The Phoenix had four players score multiple goals, including freshman midfielder Stephanie Asher, who scored five.

Elon had a stellar day on offense, taking 38 shots in total. Freshman attacker Nicole Sinacori and freshman midfielder Abby Godfrey had three goals each, while sophomore attacker Sloane Kessler scored twice. The Phoenix also outmuscled the Panthers on draw controls and ground balls, 17-11 and 13-8, respectively.

Sophomore goalie Rachel Ramirez had a solid effort in the win, playing the whole game and allowing 10 goals while making six saves. The Phoenix did well to keep the ball away from their net, converting 10-13 clears in the game.

Elon took an early lead, scoring three goals in the first ten minutes of play as Asher, Kessler, and sophomore midfielder Molly Garrigan all found the net. High Point rallied late in the half, scoring three goals in just over three minutes to make the score 6-5. However, Kessler and Asher would each score again to give the Phoenix an 8-5 halftime lead.

After the intermission, Elon began to pull away, scoring five unanswered goals, and leading by as many as eight. Many of the Phoenix’s goals were unassisted- Asher and Kessler had one assist each, totaling two for the team.

The victory gives Elon an overall record of 5-3, while High Point falls to 1-6. The Phoenix’s next game comes on March 21, when it faces Davidson University at Elon at 2 p.m.
