Correction: ELN originally reported that tuition was $43,170 next year. That was incorrect. Tuition will be $31,773 and the total (with room, board and fees) will be $43,170. We apologize for this error.

Next year, Elon students could be writing a $43 thousand dollar check to attend the University.

According to Vice President of University Communications, Dan Anderson, the total for the 2015-2016 school year, including tuition, room, board and fees, is $43,170. This is a 3% increase from this school year.

In an email to Elon parents, President Leo Lambert said this is the smallest percentage increase in 27 years and for total dollar increase, this is the smallest since 2002.

Here is the breakdown of the costs from Anderson:

Tuition: $31,773

Room: $5,399

Board: $5,599

Health/SGA Fee: $399

President Lambert's email also said in comparison to this current school year, tuition is increasing by $925 and room and board is increasing by $331. Student health and SGA fees did not see an increase.

Anderson says that the University will also be adding 11 full-time faculty, seven new staff members and three new physical plant workers.

These changes come after the Board of Trustees met to approve the 2015-2016 budget.

This is the fifth year in a row Elon's tuition has increased by less than four percent.

Last year for the 2014-2015 school year, Elon students saw a 3.69% increase in tuition. With room and board and fees, it cost $41,914 to attend Elon this school year.
