Dad, political correspondent and commencement speaker. All three titles describe Elon's 2015 Commencement speaker, Charlie Cook.

But there will be one graduating student in the audience who calls him first and foremost, dad.

Jeffrey Cook is a senior strategic communications major who said he's thankful that his dad was chosen as this year's speaker.

"I think it's going to be a great memory," said Cook. "It's cool to have your dad perform the culminating moment for your education."

The university announced Charlie Cook as speaker on Thursday, and Jeffrey said he found out only a few days prior.

"My dad called me, and the first thing he did was ask for permission," Cook said.

And this isn't Charlie Cook's first commencement speech. He also spoke at his brother's high school graduation.

"I didn't expect this at all," said Cook. "It's kind of weird [that] I'll finally get one too."

Charlie Cook is a political analyst who's had his voice heard on CNN, CBS and NBC's "Meet the Press." He is also the author of The Cook Political Report.

Jeffrey Cook said he now has a new understanding of what his father does.

"I guess you don't truly appreciate what [your parent] does in the professional world until later in life," said Cook.

He said he has no idea what to expect in his dad's address. But he is excited to see what he comes up with.

"It's really an honor, and he's very proud of it," said Cook.

"I'm really proud," Cook concludes.
