The Elon University softball team’s 2015 schedule was announced on Monday, Dec. 15. The 55-game schedule includes seven matchups against NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago in addition to 21 conference matchups in the Phoenix’s inaugural season in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Elon has CAA home series against Towson University, University of Delaware, and road series with the College of Charleston, Drexel University, Hofstra University, and James Madison University.
Opening day is on Saturday, Feb. 7 with a double-header against the University of South Carolina Upstate and Radford University. The Phoenix then host Radford again on Sunday, Feb. 8.
The Phoenix then hit the road for the first time as they head to Athens, Ga. for the Red and Black Showcase. Elon takes on Troy University and the University of Georgia on Friday, Feb. 13 and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and Georgia again on Saturday, Feb. 14.
Elon then hosts the Phoenix Opening Tournament beginning on Saturday, Feb. 21. The Phoenix take on Youngstown State and the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Saturday, then play La Salle College in a doubleheader the following afternoon. On Wednesday, Feb. 25 Elon takes on The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in a double header. Elon then hosts the Elon Softball Tournament beginning on Friday, Feb. 27 when the Phoenix face Central Connecticut State and Brown University. Elon then faces Brown a second time and Niagara College the following day.
Elon will then play host to Atlantic Coast Conference opposition North Carolina State on Wednesday, Mar. 4. The matchup with the Wolfpack kicks off a stretch of five straight games against in-state foes. Elon the faces North Carolina A&T (Mar. 5), University of North Carolina at Charlotte (Mar. 11), North Carolina Central (Mar. 13) and University of North Carolina at Greensboro (Mar. 15).
The Phoenix will open up CAA play on the road against the College of Charleston in a double header on Saturday Mar. 21 before playing the third and final game the following day.
Elon faces a third ACC team when it travels to Blacksburg, Va. to take on Virginia Tech on Wednesday, April 1.
The Phoenix also renew its rivalry with former Southern Conference rival Appalachian State University. Elon travels to Boone, N.C. for a double header on Wednesday, April 8.
Elon wraps up their regular season with a three-game conference series with the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The two North Carolina schools play a double header on Saturday, May 1 and will conclude on Sunday, May 2.
The 2015 CAA Softball Championships will begin on Wednesday, May 6 and end on Saturday, May 9. The location will depend on regular season results with the top four teams will qualify for the tournament.
