Highlights for the Elon University women's basketball team in 2014/2015 include opening Colonial Athletic Association play Jan. 4 at the University of Delaware and hosting 2014 NCAA Tournament participant Vanderbilt University Dec. 14.

Elon released its full schedule Thursday, Sept. 25. The CAA ,which Elon will be competing in for the first time, released the conference slate on Sept. 9.

The Phoenix, which went 15-16 a year ago in reaching the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament, will open the season at home Nov. 14 at home against Division-II Anderson University. Other nonconference home opponents include the Naval Academy, Liberty University, Vanderbilt, Furman University and Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Elon lost to Vanderbilt a year ago in the Commodores' Thanksgiving Tournament. This will be the first time since 1975 that a Southeastern Conference women's basketball team has come to Elon.

On the road in nonconference play, Elon will travel to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, High Point University, North Carolina State University and Campbell University.

On Dec. 21, Elon head coach Charlotte Smith will face her alma mater for the first time as the Phoenix plays the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Myrtle Beach. Smith played at North Carolina from 1992-1995 and sank the game-winning 3-pointer to help the Tar Heels win the 1994 national championship. She also spent nine years under current North Carolina coach Sylvia Hatchell as an assistant. Elon assistant coach Josh Wick is also a North Carolina graduate.

The Phoenix will host its first CAA game Jan. 6 against Drexel University. Elon plays each CAA school twice, once at home and once on the road.

Elon concludes the regular season when it hosts Delaware on March 4.
