Long-time Elon bio bus driver, William "Bill" H. Huff Jr., died Tuesday, Sept. 23, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Elon Local News talked to Huff last October. He said he had been diagnosed with stage three pancreatic cancer in February 2013.

Last year, Huff's doctor wanted him to stop working completely, but Huff's love for Elon kept him coming back to drive the West End Bio Bus route.

"He wanted me to stay at home and sit in a chair," Huff said. "And I told him 'No, no, no, no!'"

Huff was known for greeting every one of his passengers with a warm smile and a friendly hello.

He began his career at Elon in November 2004, when he was hired as a part-time Bio Bus operator.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25 at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington. Huff's funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26 at Riverdale Baptist Church at 1273 Haw River Hopedale Road in Burlington, North Carolina.

Sympathy cards may be sent to Huff's wife:
