Burlington Fire Department will sound sirens and salute in silence at 8:46 a.m. on Wednesday.
Local McDonalds restaurants are serving a free Big Mac to first responders on Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Just show your ID.
Fire, police and EMT personnel can eat a free lunch at the Baptist Temple of Alamance County from Noon until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. is holding a "Walk to Remember," to commemorate those who lost their lives on Sept. 11. Local officials are speaking at the funeral home at 2205 S. Church St. in Burlington before participants of the event walk to City Park at 9:11 a.m. The Patriot Guard Riders are providing an escort and shuttle bus to return to the funeral home.
