Two off-campus favorites for Elon students are shutting their doors.

Town Table closed on August 16 and, according to an Elon Local News exclusive interview on Wednesday with President Leo Lambert and Senior Vice President Gerald Whittington, College Street Taphouse will be closing as early as August 17.

Lambert and Whittington said the bar and restaurant are closing for economic reasons.

There are not any current plans for what will fill the spaces. Lambert and Whittington mentioned possibly using Taphouse as an operating location for SUB events and expanding Acorn Coffee Shop into Town Table's space.

Calls to the owner of the two properties, Chris Russell, have not been returned, but a note from Russell was posted outside of Town Table. The note, addressed to the restaurant's customers, reads:

"With much regret, Town Table has served its last meal. We appreciate the support you have given us, and are grateful for your patronage. Please continue to support local and independent businesses!"
