Captain Clutch: Isenbarger's big OT gives Elon Maui Invitational Regional Games championship

By his historical standards, Elon University junior guard Jack Isenbarger had a dreadful 40 minutes of regulation shooting-wise. So did his team. But he was clutch in the five minutes that followed. Isenbarger scored nine of his team-high 16viagra no prescription points in overtime to help the Elon Phoenix defeat the Florida Atlantic University Owls 62-59 in extra time of the EA Sports Maui Invitational Regional Games championship game. When the Zionsville, Ind., native made just three of 18 shots (16.7 percent) in regulation, Elon head coach Matt Matheny did not have to say anything to him or motivate him in any way. "Everybody in our program has confidence in Jack to shoot the ball," he said.

'Aggressive' Phoenix staves off Colgate to earn victory

The buzzword around the Elon University men's basketball team continues to be "aggressive." It's a word used by players and head coach Matt Matheny to describe what they want to be game in and game out. Elon junior forward Lucas Troutman had 18 pocialis daily useints, nine rebounds and a career-high seven blocks Saturday afternoon to help the "aggressive" Phoenix defeat the Colgate University Raiders 81-72 in the first game of the EA Sports Maui Invitational Regional Games at Alumni Gym in Elon, N.C. "We’re thrilled with the victory," Matheny said.

Simply brothers: Hamiltons cherish special exhibition opportunity

The first and only (so far) time Ferrum College Panthers Phoenix senior guard Marshall Hamilton and Elon University sophomore guard Austin Hamilton faced off against each other in a team environment was at a basketball camp when the former was ten years old and the latter was eight. Marshall’s team won, and Austin cried. “His team beat my team in the championship,” Austin said.

Dugas suspended for nine games

Elon University men's basketball senior forward Roger Dugas has been suspended for the "first semester," according to head coach Matt Matheny. "Roger will not play the entire first semester," Matheny said Friday.

Freshmen on men’s team adjust to bigger opponents, rigorous play

Elon University men’s basketball freshman center Tony Sabato and freshman guard Tanner Samson, the team’s first-years with scholarships, are still adjusting to life away from the comforts of home while also being thrust into the demanding world of Division I athletics. It’s an adjustment Sabato admitted has been difficult, in different capacities. “Making sure you eat right (and getting) to bed on time (have been difficult),” Sabato said.

Monty Sanders: The man behind the team

There are many things involved in basketball beyond just playing the game. There’s workouts and conditioning drills to be set up, travel arrangements to be made, keeping an accurate recruiting and alumni database, overseeing student managers, maintaining equipment and much more. One man, Monty Sanders, is the glue behind the Elon University men’s basketball team, doing all of this and more. Sanders played basketball for Elon from 2007-2009 and was a captain in his senior season.

Settled in after three years, Matheny’s push to ‘Elevate Elon’ continues

Matt Matheny, Elon University men’s basketball head coach grabbed the microphone before the small assembled crowd at the Phoenix Preview, a pair of scrimmages featuring both Phoenix basketball teams, and took center court, calling all to attention. He began by introducing Charlotte Smith, the women’s head coach, as the “best” women’s coach in the country.

Freshmen shoot for success on basketball team

Earlier this month, Elon's men's basketball team held tryouts, and for two freshmen, it was an accomplishment to make the team. Freshmen Wes Brewer and Sam Hershberger are two of the team's newest additions to the squad.
