Football upsets #8 William & Mary 27-10

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Behind a stout defense, strong special teams play and a solid second half from the offense, the Elon University football team sent a message to the rest of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) by coming to the College of William & Mary and defeating the eighth-ranked Tribe 27-10 Saturday night. “I’m extremely proud of the kids,” said head coach Rich Skrosky.

Women's soccer starts CAA play with thrilling 2OT win over Towson

Thanks to junior defender Kendall Ballotti's goal with three minutes left in double overtime, the Elon University women’s soccer team edged Towson University 2-1 in its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) match Friday night at Rudd Field. After 17 long minutes of overtime — when it began to seem as if both teams would settle for a draw — senior midfielder Sarah Henson’s cross made its way through a sea of players to Ballotti, who calmly placed the ball past a diving keeper to win the game for Elon.

CAA creates plan for N.C. events in response to HB2

The Colonial Athletic Association made a decision about how House Bill 2 will affect its championship events in North Carolina, with the impact not being felt on Elon University's campus for now. The conference will send a letter to Governor Pat McCrory expressing "strong opposition" of HB2, which will call for its appeal immediately.

Elon begins move to Under Armour

It’s been a month since the Elon University athletic teams began competition in 2016-17, which marked the beginning of Elon’s apparel partnership with Under Armour. And, since Elon became an Under Armour school July 1, Director of Athletics Dave Blank said that the relationship between the school and company has been great. “They’ve been outstanding with getting the equipment that we needed,” Blank said.

Women's soccer strikes early to beat Davidson 2-0

In its final match before Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play begins, the Elon University women’s soccer team got a first-half goal from each of its young, speedy forwards to beat Davidson College 2-0 Thursday night at Rudd Field. Freshman forward Taylor Paradoski scored in the 17th minute for her first career collegiate goal and sophomore forward Tori Baliatico found the back of the net in the 28th minute, something that encourages head coach Chris Neal ahead of conference play. "I think we took a big step forward today,” Neal said.

As NCAA, ACC pull championship events from state because of HB2, Elon could see impact

As North Carolina’s House Bill 2 continues to linger in scrutiny, Elon University may see an impact come to its campus and its state through athletics. This wekk, both the NCAA and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) pulled its neutral-site championship events out of North Carolina this week, with the NCAA pulling four Division I championship events and the ACC pulling all eight of its neutral-site championships. Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) commissioner Joe D’Antonio released a statement Wednesday, saying that the conference is “monitor[ing] all aspects of a conference championship event being held in the state of North Carolina.” “At all CAA championship events our goal is to provide an environment in which our fans, student-athletes, administrators and all people involved in the event are treated fairly and in a non-discriminatory manner,” D’Antonio said.

Volleyball off to blazing start

Elon University’s volleyball team (9-2) is off to the best start to a season since 2009 thanks to a stellar performance last weekend at the Elon Phoenix Classic. The Phoenix went a perfect 4-0 in the tournament, outscoring opponents 12-3 in sets to extend its winning streak to six.

It took very little time for the Elon University volleyball team to assert its dominance in Saturday night’s Elon Phoenix Classic finale. Led by terrific defense from sophomore outside hitter Kam Terry and relentless offensive attacks from a host of players, Elon defeated Gardner-Webb University 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 25-15).

Football falters at Charlotte after first quarter success

CHARLOTTE — A near-perfect first quarter was followed by three quarters of underwhelming play for the Elon University football team, as the Phoenix lost to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 47-14 Saturday night in Charlotte. Elon led 7-0 after a quarter thanks to four three-and-outs and a 12-play, 99-yard drive.

Moore shines in first collegiate start

While the Elon University football team lost its season opener Saturday, the week for freshman defensive back Khalil Moore could not have gone much better. Last Tuesday, as Moore finished his first day of college classes, he found out he would be starting in his first collegiate game. “I didn’t really know until after class,” Moore said.

Men's soccer stands firm in 1-0 win over Detroit Mercy

An early goal and a little bit of luck helped the Elon University men’s soccer team defeat the University of Detroit Mercy 1-0 Sunday night. The Phoenix got on the board early when sophomore forward Jaiden Fortune hit a cross from redshirt sophomore midfielder Marcel Farenholz in mid-air with his right foot and speared it past the Titan keeper for a fourth minute goal.
