Elon alumni Bryant Colson, who graduated from Elon in 1980, speaks inside Lakeside on the evening of Feb. 1 during the Black History Month Kick-off event. Colson was the first Black student at Elon University to be elected as President of the Student Government Association in 1979 and was the first Black student to become the Editor and Chief of the Pendulum in 1978.

A town of Elon resident was arrested on Oct. 2 for “resisting a public officer and disorderly conduct," according to a police report.
Students, faculty, staff, friends and family members gathered Under the Oaks to celebrate the class of 2020, after eighteen months in the making. While the ceremony was intended in May of 2020 to be the final commencement Under the Oaks, today’s ceremony is the first graduation of its kind — graduates finally crossing the stage and receiving their saplings, in person.

The City of Burlington announced George “Rich” Austin Jr. will be the city’s newest chief of police. The Charlotte native plans to relocate to Burlington in the coming weeks and most recently served as the police chief of Milton, Georgia since January 2017.

Hundreds spread across the Historic Neighborhood and academic pavilions for the 2020 Festival of Holiday Lights. This year, Festival of Holiday Lights coordinators partnered with various campus organizations and incorporated spread-out stations focusing on religious holidays and how they celebrate light. The stations highlighted Kwanzaa, secular identities, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and Diwali, Muslim life/Spirit and Pride as well as the LGBTQIA communities.
With 38 of 38 precincts reporting John Paisley Jr., Bill Lashley, Jr. and Pam Thompson are projected to win.
