A day after the five year anniversary of the deadliest high school shooting ever to occur in U.S. history, Elon sophomore and lacrosse midfielder Sammy Fisher, a graduate of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida, tied her career high in goals scored and Elon’s all-time draw wins in a single game. Fisher said to accomplish what she did and win 13-9 against Queens University of Charlotte in a hard fought lacrosse game on a day as significant as this was a dream come true.

Senior Annabelle Ackroyd came to Elon University to join the women’s golf team. She began playing the sport at a young age, but she said what makes her golf experience different is where she grew up — Canada.

The Elon University's men's golf team faced a 180 degree turn when it returned to the links this fall. The team of ten last year was made up of four seniors and two graduate students, and this year, it has just one of each that make up the ten man roster. Now, primarily made up of underclassmen, head coach Don Hill said he’s seen this year’s team bond in ways last year’s group did not.

A series of text messages were blowing up sophomore tennis player Miray Konar’s phone on the evening of Feb. 6. The texts were coming from Konar’s friend in Lebanon, asking if her family in Turkey was safe. Konar, who was unaware that an earthquake hit her home country, was hearing the news for the first time.

Senior Rachel Mikolay will always remember the day her life changed. The former goalie for the Elon University lacrosse team was a freshman at the time preparing for the upcoming season like any other day. After weeks of cardio training, 5K marathons and bike rides, Mikolay one day lost vision in one of her eyes.

The Elon University softball team stepped onto the field for the first time in the 2023 regular season playing in the Elon Softball Classic tournament Feb. 10 to to 11. The team has played four games so far — two against Winthrop University, one against North Carolina Central University and one against Morgan State University — and finished 1-3 with its only win coming against NC Central.

Freshman Veljko Krstic, tennis player for the Elon men’s tennis team, came to Elon from Belgrade, Serbia. Novak Djokovic, the world's best tennis player according to the Association of Tennis Professionals, comes from the same city as Krstic.

The downtown Elon social district will launch in April, according to Town Manager Rich Roedner. Roedner said there may be an event for Elon community members to attend to launch the district, which was officially passed Sept. 26, 2022. During the Feb. 14 meeting, Town council members also discussed the first public art exhibit displayed in town hall and the town’s maintenance cart ordinance.

Alamance County has a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People youth council, a college division and an adult branch for the first time ever. The NAACP is a civil rights organization founded on Feb. 12, 1909. Their mission is to fight for racial equality for all people.

My Saturday morning begins at 6:30 a.m. All my tools, camera equipment and water bottles are already in a bag. The only thing I need to do is put on my lycra and take my bike out to the car. For the second straight day, the Elon University softball team closed its performance with a dramatic contest. However, the Phoenix could not replicate Friday’s magic, losing 8-7 in nine innings against Winthrop University despite coming from two runs down on two separate occasions.
