Elon University’s Student Union Board will host Alex Moffat as the spring comedian this year. Moffat is best known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” as a cast member during its 42nd season in 2016. He remained a cast member for subsequent seasons and left the NBC sketch comedy show in 2022.

Originally from Chicago, Moffat started his comedy career there as an improviser and performer at several venues such as Annoyance Theatre and Zanies Comedy Club. He was an actor before starting on “SNL.”

Elon freshman Josh Tobin is the SUB vice president of special events and said the committee chose Moffat from a list of 15 comedians with the guidance of a middle agent. The committee also reached out to other universities who have hosted Moffat in the past, such as Drexel University, who hosted him Sep. 17, 2022.

Tobin said he is excited that Moffat is performing at Elon, especially since he thinks Moffat is good at impressions of people.

“I’ve seen almost everything he’s been in on ‘SNL’ just to make sure he would do good here,” Tobin said.

Moffat will perform in McCrary Theatre at 8 p.m. March 7.

Tobin said there are 400 tickets reserved for students and faculty of Elon. Tickets are free and can be picked up starting Feb. 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m in the SUB office in Moseley 120. Tickets to the public will only be available if all reserved tickets are taken by students and faculty, Tobin added.

Tickets can be picked up on any day leading up to the show but will be available at the door on show day.

Past spring comedians have included Jenny Yang in 2022 and Nicole Byer in 2020.
