Construction is underway for a new Dunkin Donuts on the 3000 block of South Church St. — which is just under three miles away from campus and roughly a seven-minute drive. The location is across from the Food Lion near campus.

Elon University changes its services and operations for the summer season, including for counseling and health services, Belk Library and the Moseley Center. Other than TimelyCare virtual care, all Elon operations will be closed for Independence Day on July 4 and 5.

A comprehensive and interactive calendar for Elon University's class of 2024 graduation and commencement events. The bulk of events occur from Tuesday, May 21 to Friday, May 24. All graduates confirmed to participate in the 134th Commencement on May 24 in Schar Center must reserve guest tickets to their diploma ceremony. With the anticipated number of graduates in each diploma ceremony, the maximum number of guest tickets is five. Parking lots will open at 7:15 a.m. for Commencement guest parking. Guests are asked to park at Schar Center only for the ceremony they are attending.

The Lumen Advisory Committee has announced Elon University’s 2024 Lumen Scholar winners. Lumen Prize winners are granted $20,000 to support their mentored research and creative projects over the next two years.

Elon announced on April 22 that it will be collaborating with eight other universities and colleges to create a large-scale solar facility supported by a Power Purchase Agreement. The project will be located in Robards, Kentucky and will power roughly 24,000 homes each year.

April 1 marks the beginning of Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Elon’s Center for Race Ethnicity Diversity Education has prepared several events to educate students. This year’s theme is “Identities in bloom, Identities take root” which is meant to spread awareness on API students building communities and forging their own path on Elon’s campus. Other organizations such as the Asian-Pacific Student Association, Chinese Club and Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. are also hosting events.

After extending the deadline for applications to run for a Student Government Association race, 44 candidates applied across all 60 spots. The deadline was extended twice — as no one applied to run for student body president. The first time SGA extended the deadline, the organization was not technically allowed to do so because it was done without an election amendment or approval from the Senate.

November is Native American Heritage Month in the U.S. and was established in 1990. Elon’s Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education hosts events throughout the month including a kickoff, artist showcase and beading workshop. Elon University, which is situated on land originally occupied by the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi nation, is beginning a process to revitalize the tribe’s heritage language: Yesa:sahį. The language revitalization is the university’s 14th institutional priority for the 2023-24 school year. Randy Williams, vice president for inclusive excellence, said the university is partnering with the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation to revitalize the tribe’s heritage language.

Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Elon University hosts a Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-Off Festival in Medallion Plaza each year, with various events throughout the month that celebrate Hispanic food, music, performers and more. Sept. 14 and 15 mark the beginning of community-wide celebration with the kick-off festival and book display beginning Sept. 15. Elon University will kick off its Move-In Day and New Student Orientation festivities this Friday, Aug. 18. Events will last through Monday, Aug. 21 and classes will begin Tuesday, Aug. 22.
