Elon University added Alpha Epsilon Pi and Sigma Chi to its Student Organization Disciplinary Status page following the end of the fall semester. Both fraternities are members of Elon’s Interfraternity Council.
Alpha Epsilon Pi has been given an official warning for a Code of Conduct violation following “hazing behaviors within their new member education process,” the violation wrote. The violation also stated concerns for Alpha Epsilon Pi, such as inconsistent leadership, unclear expectations and insufficient oversight during new member activities.
The Sanctions and Submissions page on the Student Conduct website states that “an official warning is the lowest disciplinary status level for social policy violations of the Code of Conduct. An official warning is a notification to a student(s) that they have been found responsible for a Code of Conduct violation and that any other violations may result in more serious sanction.”
Elon’s Hazing Prevention webpage defines hazing as being “used by group members to screen new members, foster bonds, or establish standing in their group.” According to the page, hazing puts the physical or mental health of an individual or group at risk.
Alpha Epsilon Pi’s action plan, according to the disciplinary page, includes hazing prevention speaker attendance, new member education plan revisions, and ongoing oversight and accountability.
According to the violation summary, the organization accepted responsibility for the violation.
Elon Alpha Epsilon Pi President Andrew Cox and Vice President Josh Gershon did not respond to Elon News Network’s immediate request for comment.
According to the violation summary for Sigma Chi, the fraternity has been placed on Disciplinary Probation until June 22.
The Sanctions and Submissions page on the Student Conduct website states disciplinary probation is “a status imposed for a specific time period during which a student can remain on campus, attend classes, and participate in certain programs and activities but is not in good standing and may not participate in study abroad/away programs and student leadership positions.”
The disciplinary status page states that the organization accepted responsibility for multiple violations of the university Code of Conduct related to alcohol use and hosting practices during the fall semester. Incidents involved underage drinking, overconsumption of alcohol and inadequate monitoring at chapter events, according to the summary.
Elon junior Jack Griffin, president of Sigma Chi, said in an email to Elon News Network that he is traveling and not immediately available for a phone interview.
According to the Student Organization Disciplinary Status page, Sigma Chi also has a disciplinary history, previously accepting an alternative resolution following reports related to hazing received during the semester in Spring 2025.
Elon’s Office of Student Conduct referred Elon News Network to Elon's media relations department for comment.
