Seniors and their families gathered in McKinnon Hall May 22 to take part in the Legacy Reception, a celebration for students who have had a relative attend Elon before them.

The Legacy Reception is meant to honor students who have a family member of any generation who attended Elon before them. As part of the reception, each student received an alumni pin.

Gracyn Hann was pinned by her father, Robert Hann ‘96, with her mother, Colleen Hann ‘96, nearby. Hann said that she loved getting to attend the same college as her parents.

“Walking around campus and seeing them pointing out old places that used to be completely different,” Hann said. “Just connecting through that, and just knowing that I get to walk where they walked, and it's just a big honor to me to be able to do that”

Hann said her favorite part of her four years at Elon was getting to spend time with friends.

“Gathering at the lake with my friends and having picnics, I just thought it was a lot of fun to bond and hammock and eat snacks and just talk about everything,” Hann said.

Hann will graduate with a finance degree and plans to study at King’s College in London for a master's degree in banking and finance.

For Abby Lee, she said attending Elon has made her feel closer to her aunt, Amy Lee ‘97, especially since her aunt’s death.

“I feel like I have a deeper connection with her,” Lee said. “It's something that I get to share with her, that not everybody in our family gets to share, and it's something that’s ours.”

Lee said some of her favorite memories at Elon are from her involvement with new student orientation programs.

After graduating with degrees in public health and political science, Lee will join the Elon year of service fellowship program, an application based year long postgraduate program where fellows work with organizations in Alamance County. She will be working at Impact Alamance, a healthcare nonprofit based in Alamance County.
