Elon University’s e-billing system was updated as the 2024-25 school year comes to a close.
Bursar Alessandra Gabriel said the update is meant to provide a more modern, user-friendly experience.
Bursar Alessandra Gabriel said the university's new billing system is meant to provide a more modern, user-friendly experience.
“Payment plans are on a different portal," Gabriel said. "Statements are not real time, they’re manually uploaded, so they could be not as up to date with someone’s account activity that may be happening in real time. So we knew it was time to modernize some things and give people access to what they were needing and wanting.”
The new billing system will be provided by Flywire, a relatively new Boston-based payment platform specializing in international payments — a positive for Gabriel.
“Our international families were very limited in how we can accept payments from them if they don’t have a U.S. bank account,” Gabriel said. “The only option really is for them to wire us funds.”
Bursar Alessandra Gabriel said the updates would also benefit graduate students, who pay on a different billing cycle from undergraduate students, by simplifying their access to payment plans.
Gabriel said that, with Flywire, international families will be able to pay in their home currency and access payment plans. In the 2024 school year, 119 undergraduate Elon students were international — about 1.8% of Elon’s undergraduate student population.

On May 20, Elon Law students and students registered for summer courses in Master of Business Administration or Master of Science in Business Administration programs are the first group to be billed under the new payment system.
Undergraduate tuition will be received via the new system on June 24 and due on August 1.
