Updated as of 1:04 p.m. on Feb. 8 to include update on road reopening. 

Traffic on East Haggard Ave. was closed from Antioch to Lawrence due to a gas leak, according to an E-Alert sent at approximately 11 a.m. At around 12:30 p.m., another E-Alert stated that traffic had reopened and access to Sheridan Place — which had also been blocked — is once again available.

Crews remain on scene to complete repairs on the leak..


Elon University facilities management said the leak is not on Elon’s property and the town of Elon is working to fix this issue. Town of Elon Fire Department did not respond to Elon News Network’s immediate request for comment and the town police department did not have any information to share.

This is the second gas leak near campus within one month — with the first one taking place Jan. 12 and causing an evacuation of Danieley D.
