Davis Cheek takes his spot on the Carolina Panthers practice team as of Dec. 6. The former Elon University quarterback was called up to the team after the Carolina Panthers parted ways with Baker Mayfield midseason Dec. 5, leaving a spot open on the practice team for a new quarterback in the 2022-23 season.

Cheek is now part of the practice squad, which is composed of 16 players to allow teams to have replacement players available in case of injuries.

Cheek signed with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent in the spring after starting 40 games in his five year career at Elon. Cheek is the eighth Elon player to be signed to an NFL team as an undrafted free agent, and one of only 17 players from Elon’s team to have been selected by NFL franchises.
